What is Tape Echo?

Tape Echo is a tape delay plugin. The feedback path runs through tape from the Tape Machine engine, so each repeat loses a little top end, picks up harmonics, compresses and drifts.

That change from one repeat to the next is what lets the echo sit behind the dry signal.

Use it on

  • Slapback on a vocal or guitar 80 to 120 ms, low Feedback, a touch of Record Drive.
  • Dub delay Sync to a dotted eighth, raise Feedback and Record Drive, add Tape Comp (Expansion) so the trail holds.
  • Vintage wobble Raise Detune, then set Detune Speed (Expansion) for how fast the pitch wanders.
  • Vocal echo that stays clear Ducking (Expansion) keeps the repeats under the phrase and lets them bloom between lines.

Yes. Sync locks Echo Time to note divisions. Set Sync to Free for a time in milliseconds.

Lower Feedback or darken Tone so the trail moves behind the dry signal. Ducking (Expansion) drops the repeats while the dry signal plays.
