Stereo Expander: width with a steady center

Widen a mix or a bus and the center stays put. The sides pass through a tape head, so the extra width keeps an analog texture and the low end stays where it belongs.

What is Stereo Expander?

Stereo Expander is a mid/side width tool with a tape head on the sides. It spreads a mix or bus while the center stays steady.

The Expansion adds Bass Mono to hold the low end, plus Tape Character, Air, Crosstalk, Drive, Skew and Motion for the side signal.

It installs with the pack.

Use it on

  • Mix bus a few percent of width, Bass Mono (Expansion) on. Wider, with the kick and bass still in the center.
  • Synth and pad buses more width, Motion (Expansion) for slow movement.
  • Drum overheads moderate width, Crosstalk (Expansion) to pull the kit back together.
  • Stereo guitars Skew (Expansion) tilts the image left or right.
