What does tape tone sound like?

At subtle settings, tape tone sounds like a recording that simply feels "finished" — warmer, fuller, and easier to listen to, without any obvious effect. Pushed harder, it becomes audible coloration: thickness, grit, and a vintage, lo-fi character. The key is that the added harmonics are musical, so it rarely sounds harsh.

Tape tone vs. distortion vs. compression
